You've heard her voice on a few previous releases from our label; you've seen her name floated in our promotional packages; you've been delighthed by the power and the impact of her voice. Now, get ready to be formally introduce to The First Lady of Harlem Station Recordings: LA VEDA...
Blowback is the first single to be released from her already completed first ever full-length album - to be released at the end of 2010 - and sets the tone nicely and gently for her official solo introduction to the world. Propped on top of an infectuous yet easy and soothing melody, the original version of Blowback will have you singing the chorus long after the song has dissipated into your surrounding; La Veda's vocal presence, tone and delivery - which have been featured on countless singles from noteworthy industry producers and remixers - decidedly set the stage for her planned climb to the top of the charts and among the respected and notable contemporary female vocalists of our generation. With ease, strength and masterful control of her instrument, she shows why she is at ease performing jazz, rhythm and blues, house or down-tempo songs. The lyrics - skillfully penned and delivered by La Veda - give only a glimpse of her potential, repertoire, range and diversity (something that will be much more evident on the upcoming full-length album).
The single also gets a decidedly unconventional remix treatment from newly re-surfaced Mr. Soul Fabulous from California who gives it a classical rework marked by old-school piano and synth runs, layered over traditional East coast drum programming which only hightens your awareness to the track.
From across the pond, London more specifically, Nitewerx gets his hands and his skills all worked up over La Veda's vocals, chopping them up and re-serving them with his own distinct imprint, over chomping, bass-shacking garage and breakbeat undercurrents and manages to yet again to showcase the treasure and gift that is La Veda's voice.
Last on the single, the original producers of this gem - The Vision and Element - who have worked with La Veda since the beginning of this journey, are appropriately showcased and featured in the instrumental version of the track. They believed in her before the rest of the world knew her and we are thankful to them for bringing her to our label's doors.
Don't pass on this release - already featured in playlists by top DJ's, radio promoters and online curators - that sets the tone for the upcoming proper and far-reaching introduction of La Veda to the rest of the world. It is a must have, if not only for the fierce portrait of the artist on the CD cover.
