My Life (Remixes)

by CJ Burken

MY LIFE, the second single from CJ Burken's well-received album MY THIRD I, undergoes a reboot with three new remixes from CJ Burken and The Undah-Dub.
The "Redux" mix juxtaposes Quest's ethereal vocals with a darker frenetic groove, all masterfully crafted over a haunting bassline and incessant drum percussions, punctuated by intermittent metallic grinding pads and sweeps, building the track slowly and steadily till the very last second which dissipates into nothingness while the vocals echoes out into the distance. Quite an imaginative reconstructing of the original.
The Undah-Dub's remix on the other hand, delivers a steady, thumping, dizzying beat under a cleverly repeating vocal loop, with valleys, peeks, swirls, retractions, echoes, pans and explosions that give it a friendlier club feel.
The "In Three" mix takes a more melancholic and laid back approach to it's production, definitely showcasing the smooth vocals of Quest. It meanders and slowly works its way to about the half-way point where suddenly, after an inconspicuous drop, the tempo literally doubles to a fast drum-n-bass groove that carries the listener higher and higher into its apex. One for the books.
The rest of the EP features instrumental versions of the "Redux" and "In Three" mixes as well as a shorter radio-edit version.
